Founders Notes

The Founders Committee was established in 2007. We have sixteen active members at present. Meeting are held at the Haynes House of Hope on a regular basis when needed. The purpose of the Founders Comm. is primarily to encourage publicity, fund raising and in general support the workings of the Board to benefit the Comfort Care Home. We were active in the planning, set up and volunteering at our Sweetheart Dance in Feb. It was very successful and enjoyed by many persons in the middle of our difficult winter weather. Members of the committee continue to send thank you notes and acknowledgements to those persons who have donated memorial gifts to our home. These gifts are appreciated and show an understanding of the purpose and needs of our Comfort care Home. We are looking ahead to fund raising events including our tag sale on May 14th, Granville Town Wide Sale Day. This will be held at the Haynes House. On October 1st we are planning a celebration of country and bluegrass music at the K of C and a chicken BBQ. Tentative hours 11AM to 5PM. Further plans will be published at a later date. We will be helping the Board in their Auction-Dinner fundraising event at the Lake St.Catherine Country Club on May 13th. New members on the committee are always welcome. It is a rewarding and heartwarming experience to support the purpose of our home for terminally ill persons also comfortable lodging for families who wish to stay with their loved one. Dear Friends,

Have you ever chosen or made a very special gift for a loved one? Have you ever taken the time to help or to make something for someone in need? Do you remember their gratitude? Do you remember how you felt?

The Haynes House of Hope needs your help. We need you to give the gift of your time to someone in need. We need you to help us take care of our "loved ones". By doing so, you will become a part of that person‟s family, and a part of the Haynes House family. We don‟t ask for much, just four hours of your time, once or twice a month, whenever it fits into your schedule.

The work isn‟t hard, and you are never asked to do something out of your comfort zone. The things we do in our home are the same things that you do in your home:

*light house work -cooking, cleaning, laundry

*light yard work -raking, shoveling, gardening, mowing the lawn, small repairs/improvements

*committee work -publicity, fundraising, newsletters

**most importantly -resident care!!!

Keep the resident company -read to them, watch TV or movies with them, talk to them,

cook and share a meal with them, visit with their family

Light hands-on care -personal assistance

We will work with each volunteer on all appropriate skills and will orient you to the house for all necessary resident interactions.

The Haynes House of Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to provide comfort care to the terminally ill and their families. Our goal is to give the residents and their families comfortable, quality, loving time together in a home-like setting.

Please go to our website at www.thehayneshouseofhope.org, or call Janelle at 642-8155, or call Crystal at

642-0538 to find out more about how you can help. We need you!!!!!

Volunteering at Haynes House

By Alice Didier

Volunteering at Haynes House has opened up a whole new world for me especially at a time after the loss of my husband, when I was in need of filling a huge void in my life. Interacting with the residents has given me new insights into my own life and it has made me more aware of how fortunate I am to be the giver rather than receiver of what little aid I am capable of giving. Our residents have lead varied and unusual lives and they are eager to talk of their many fascinating and often surprising experiences. If all you can do is chat a while with a resident then you are already performing a much needed service.

In addition, I have found volunteers to be the most delightful people and I have made many new friends through this avenue. Haynes House is performing a service that is available nowhere else in this area and we can all be proud of this amazing accomplishment. It is up to all of us to maintain and foster with love and dedication the care and high quality of service that the Haynes House of Hope offers.

Every shift, and every service, however small or menial, is important, but weekends and night shifts are the most difficult to fill so it would be so much appreciated if you could try filling in during these times. It often helps to „buddy up‟ with a friend.

Thank you God for Haynes House of Hope and the people who keep it going.

Meet Linda Volunteer Coordinator

After 35yrs of nursing and retiring in 2007 I have now been led to Haynes House of Hope. The last seven years of my career had been with Washington County Hospice. I feel very privileged to have such a personal relationship with each and every resident's final journey here, along with their family during this most difficult and personal time. This community is truly blessed to have this awesome home which is full of life and love, through the work of the volunteers who give so much of themselves.

On Saturday May 21 the directors of the Haynes House of Hope will hold a volunteer dinner for the in-house volunteers at the Haynes House of Hope. The meal will be prepared by volunteer Master Chef Tom Neeson. Since October volunteers have been in the house 24/7 meeting the needs of our resident and deserve this special night.

Message from Janelle - Director of the Haynes House Of Hope

Things are running smoothly here at our Haynes House of Hope, of course we always seem to have that continuous need for more in-house volunteers. If you‟re even mulling over the thought of volunteering please come and talk with Linda or me. We‟ll surely convince you to join our team! It really is a wonderful, wonderful feeling of goodness in your heart when you spend a few hours here at the house. It is so rewarding to be a part of this time in a person‟s life and to know that you assisted in making their journey more pleasant, comfortable and peaceful. We‟re not always a serious bunch either. A lot of fun, good times and good memories happen here for the residents as well as their families, our staff and volunteers. Please come and join us!

A sense of comfort and peace overcome anyone who walks through our doors. One visitor who frequented the Haynes House stated, "You know it feels like I‟ve come home when I enter through your door." There‟s no better compliment.

I have mentioned in the past, if anyone should have a question about the Haynes House, in regard to how it runs, who can refer someone, why we‟ve only had one resident at a time and not two, or volunteering questions call me at 518-642-8155. I am available generally everyday, if you don‟t reach me leave a message and I‟ll get back to you as soon as possible. Having the facts about our home is very important to us.

This past week was "Volunteer Appreciation Week" To ALL our present volunteers thank you, thank you, thank you, you are so appreciated. Each and everyone of you share something very special with the residents and us at the Haynes House of Hope. We couldn‟t do it without you.

We Love you Janelle

FFA makes $1,000 Donation

Monday, April 25th the Granville FFA presented the Haynes House of Hope with $1,000 donation. The money was raised entirely by members who put together the Hoedown For Hope last month. The decision to raise money for a good cause was made early on and the Haynes House of Hope seemed like the perfect cause. Members believe that this was a great success in giving back to our community.

The Granville FFA would like to thank everyone who attended or helped with the Hoedown for Hope on March 25th.

Dear Janelle and Volunteers

It was so obvious to me that your calling is serving and comforting.

It was so nice to meet so many of you, to attend the church

and to eat Janelle‟s muffins on Sunday.

Marge is so blessed to have your care and to be in such a lovely place

with a peaceful happy spirit."

Dear friends

Thank you for making my stay with Marge such a happy, caring and delicious time.

You are all such wonderful human beings. I tell friends here about you and they cannot believe the story about the building, donations and volunteers.

Then, I tell them about you who provide 24-7 care for Marge.

"It takes a special kind of person to care enough to take the time for others,

to do whatever it takes to help somebody out.

For everything you have done...

For everything you have given...

Thank you very much."

Dear Janelle

"Words alone cannot express our sincere thanks to you, Linda

and all the wonderful volunteers at Haynes House.

It is such a comfort to our family to see Marge

has such a superb group of people caring for her."

Thanks

It is true love goes on.

I am so grateful to all of you for being there for him while he let go.

He had an unconventional life but was a good man with a big heart and needed a resting place like you provided. Your work made and makes a huge difference. Thank you..."

"This past Sunday, a friend and I visited our good friend at your lovely facility.

We were graciously greeted and escorted to her lovely room.

I can‟t tell you how pleased I am to know she is in such good hands.

She is fortunate to have kind, caring people around her as she approaches the end of her life here on earth.

She is in the thoughts and prayers of her family and many friends.

Thank you, and may God bless all of you for the wonderful work you are doing"

Recently a 92 year old came to the Haynes House of Hope to volunteer saying that he wanted to come for "conversation."

We will put him on the schedule this spring to lighten up our days!
